Hello!

Researchers from the Colorado School of Mines are recruiting participants for a research study about crowdsourcing platforms and experiences with on-demand work. This study may help us better understand the motivations and challenges involved in this kind of work, and provide insights that can be used to develop tools designed to mitigate some of the problems that people encounter when using crowdsourcing platforms.

You are eligible to participate in this study is you are at least 18 years of age or older, located in the United States, and are either a current crowdworker, a job requester who uses crowdsourcing platforms, a platform operator, or working in another sort of on-demand job and may be interested in doing crowd work at some point in the future.

You will be asked to participate in an open-ended interview to share your experiences with crowdsourcing platforms and/or on-demand work. The interview will last roughly one hour, and will take place wherever is most convenient for you, including via online video chat or by telephone. You will be compensated for your participation as follows: $20 per hour for an audio-only interview via telephone, $30 per hour for an online video chat (for example on Zoom, Skype, Google Hangout, etc.), and $40 per hour for an in-person interview. The method of payment will be one that is most convenient for you (for example, Venmo transfer, PayPal transfer, check, cash, etc.).

If you decide to participate, there is no anticipated direct benefit.

If you are interested in participating in this study, please contact Dr. Stephen C. Rea at srea@mines.edu or Dr. Chuan Yue at chuanyue@mines.edu. They will work with you to schedule a time for the interview that is convenient, provide you with more detailed information about the study, and answer any questions or concerns that you may have.

Thank you!
