It's my first! I heard corn snakes are good beginner snakes because they don't usually bite and it doesn't hurt when they bite. I was scared to pick him up at first , I tried with gloves and he didn't strike or anything so I got brave enough with bare hands and it's been all good!

I'm a weird reptile nerd so let me know if you need any help . Corns are great, very easy to care for and handle.

When a corn does strike (not common), it's usually a feeding response (they got overexcited when the cage was opened and thought your hand was food). To prevent that with my snakes (though I don't personally keep corns) I like to lightly tap them before I pick them up. It kind of lets them know that I'm there but not feeding them. It might sound silly but consider getting a small snake hook. You use it to gently lift and guide the snake out of the enclosure, then you can handle as normal. It's just a handy tool for initially getting the snake out and will help you get more comfortable.

The forum has made me really want a snake. I think my cats would kill it or it would eat my cats. Plus, my husband is terrified of them but that doesn't matter as much as the first two reasons.
