funniest thing in the world to me even after 20 years.. i was in Rome as a college student for a semester and as most are probably aware it doesn't take but a few weeks to get to the point where you're not sticking out like a sore thumb as an American tourist and the natives don't treat you like anything other than someone who lives in the city. Well, that came into play about a month after the semester started. A friend of mine and I were sitting in the Vatican on the Colonnade just talking when an American couple came up to us, clearly lost, with their Italian phrases book. My friend and I let them go on in their very broken Italian for about a minute or two until we just couldn't keep a straight face any longer. A bit of laugh and, "wait a sec. We're actually from Texas. Just here as students. Now, where are you trying to go?" At that point, we knew we'd figured out, and gotten comfortable with, blending in w/ the Romans. Good times. I miss that city.I had Italian on cassette tape(what are these?).
Io vorrei una camera con baño y una doccia, per favore.
No. La camera e molto caro, y la doccia e rotta!
Io voglio a buon mercato.
Drove for hours listening to that.
