I'm abandoning this ship. The highlights of my day: the 12-pack of Bud & quart of Strawberry ice cream my friendly grocery-shopper neighbor just dropped off, and my interesting discussion with @freakania, ... not in that order.

OH!. . . just found two photos [ taken, of course, with my "spy" camera ] of my "unit" in Vietnam, circa 1968. I thought I'd lost all of those when my desktop died, but NO!!! thanks for the heads up! I was looking for a dirt cheap current gen Dot and this fits the bill. The speaker volume and quality is definitely better for the same size footprint than the OG dot.

I don't think it should - it's normally like a $40 item so what is the extra two dollars you are going to have to pay because I assume you aren't a Prime member (7.99 for the music sub part for prime members, 9.99 for non-prime members making this dot offer $11 if you don't have prime).

as for all the privacy concerns, no one trusts the mic mute button on the top of the Dot?
